Inventor's Workshop

Bring your inventions to life! Students will use tiny computers called PicoCrickets to make interactive sculptures, dancing creatures, and other exciting inventions. In the process they will learn about math, science, technology, and of course design. Each week students will make their own creations around a common theme such as Kinetic Sculptures, Animals, or In the Garden. At the end of the course they will have a chance to share their favorite designs with family and friends.

Digital Storytelling (Ages 5-7)

In this class students will create and weave together text, images, sounds, animations and photos to develop an exciting digital story. The elements of successful storytelling will be explored, with opportunities to develop presentation skills. The class will also cover introductory computer skills for those who need them, including running applications and managing files.

Lego Robotics

This class is an exciting introduction to designing and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorms Robotics System. Students will learn mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. In small teams students will build robots and write computer programs that make their robots move, interact with the environment, and manipulate objects to solve challenges. At the end of the class students will host a Robotics Competition where their robots will compete in races and obstacle courses!

Advanced Video Game Design Using Game Maker

This is an advanced level course that is perfect for those seeking new challenges and greater control over their video game creations. Game Maker is a powerful, yet accessible, game development tool that allows students to create complex multi-level video games. In this class students will design, build, and take home their own Windows-based video games. Students will create their own graphics, develop a story, and use sound and other special effects. Students will enhance their skills in programming, game design, and logic, with the goal of being able to make their own games at home.

Stop Motion Animation

Students in this course will create their own "Wallace and Gromit" style stop motion animation movies using Legos. This hands-on class teaches students about storyboard development, building sets, introducing props, digital filming techniques, and movie editing. The final product will be shared with other students and parents during the last class and students will take home a copy of their movie on DVD. Students will learn to exercise their imaginations in entirely new ways! This class is especially great for kids who love Legos and is a good precursor to live action movie making.
